All our courses pursue four general objectives that contribute to its vision to help build vibrant, prosperous, and sustainable communities in the North.

The Polytechnic Institute of Northern Canada is a private educational institution established by the IBS Group of Companies, driven by a profound sense of social responsibility. We welcome learners from all backgrounds, its mission is centred on addressing the longstanding educational challenges faced by residents of remote northern communities—particularly those with predominantly Indigenous populations.
We are operate independently and does not receive financial support from federal, provincial, or territorial governments, nor from Indigenous organizations. It is sustained without public funding, guided instead by a strong commitment to creating meaningful, lasting impact in the communities it serves.
Our programs and initiatives are not driven by profit, but by the firm belief that education is a vital instrument for community development, empowerment, and self-determination. In many northern communities—where Indigenous people often comprise 90% or more of the population—access to formal education remains limited due to geographic isolation, infrastructure barriers, and historical inequities. The Polytechnic Institute of Northern Canada was created to bridge that gap, offering high-quality, flexible, and accessible programming specifically designed to meet the unique needs of remote learners at various levels in their academic and professional journey.
All our programs are open to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students. Tuition rates vary based on program length and level; however, they are very comparable to tuition fees at other post-secondary institutions and educational providers across Canadian provinces and territories. To further support learners from remote Indigenous communities, we offer a 20% tuition discount to Indigenous students when fees are paid directly by the individual, rather than through an employer or third-party funder.
